Georgia Real Estate Exam: What to Bring on Test Day

Confirm every requirement in the current candidate handbook published by the Georgia exam vendor. Nothing on this page is an official policy statement, and a center can enforce a stricter rule than the one printed.

This page is a packing list, not a pep talk. Testing centers turn candidates away for paperwork reasons far more often than for anything to do with the Georgia question bank, and almost all of those turnaways are preventable the night before.

Rules differ by vendor and they get revised, so treat everything below as the pattern to confirm rather than the final word. Verify each item against the current candidate handbook published by the Georgia exam vendor before you drive anywhere.

The Two-ID Pattern Most Vendors Use

Plan on two forms of identification. The first is a current government-issued photo ID: a driver license, a state ID card, a passport, or a military ID. Unexpired matters. So does the name printed on it, which normally has to match the name on your exam registration character for character.

The second is usually a signature ID without a photo requirement: a credit card, a debit card, a bank card, or a social security card, depending on what the vendor accepts. Whether Georgia follows this exact pattern, and which documents count on each side of it, is a question for the current candidate handbook published by the Georgia exam vendor, not for a forum post.

Your Confirmation or Authorization Paperwork

When you scheduled, you were sent a confirmation. Some jurisdictions also require an authorization or eligibility notice issued once your application and education were approved. Print both if you have them, and save a copy on your phone as a backup even though the phone itself will not come to the desk with you.

Georgia runs separate Salesperson and Broker exams, and the paperwork usually names which one you are sitting for. Read it before you leave. If the track, the date, the site address, or the reporting time on the confirmation is not what you expected, that is a phone call to make now rather than a conversation to have at the check-in desk.

Goes in the Locker, Not to the Desk

Phone, smartwatch, fitness tracker, earbuds, and any other connected device

Study notes, flash cards, printed outlines, and books, including the ones you meant to read in the waiting room

Bag, backpack, purse, and outerwear, since most centers want the seat area empty

Food, gum, and drinks, unless the center has approved a documented accommodation

Your own calculator, scratch paper, pens, and pencils, which are almost never allowed in

What the Center Supplies

Assume the testing room provides its own materials. That typically means erasable note boards or laminated sheets with a marker, handed to you at check-in and collected before you leave, plus either a basic on-screen calculator built into the exam software or a simple handheld unit issued at the desk.

This is the most vendor-dependent item on the page. Some sites issue a physical calculator, some only the on-screen one, and some allow a specific non-programmable model you bring yourself. Do not gamble on the Georgia math questions: check the current candidate handbook published by the Georgia exam vendor and, if it is still unclear, call the site directly.

Leave It in the Car

Everything you do not strictly need, so the locker holds less and check-in moves faster

Anyone who drove you, unless the center has a waiting area that allows guests

Water and a snack for afterward, useful if you are staying to review the score report

A charged phone, which you will want for directions and for the drive home, not inside

The second set of ID documents, if you brought spares, so a rejected card is a walk outside and not a rescheduled exam

Name Mismatches and Other Desk Problems

My ID and my Georgia registration spell my name differently. Is that a problem?

Treat it as one until proven otherwise. A middle initial that appears on one document and not the other, a maiden name, a hyphen, or a nickname entered at registration can all be enough for a center to refuse to seat you, and the fee is generally not refunded when that happens. Fix the mismatch at the source well before test day: correct the registration record, or renew the ID, whichever is wrong.

How early should I plan to arrive?

Earlier than the reporting time printed on your confirmation, which is already earlier than the exam start. Check-in includes ID inspection, a signature, a photo, locker storage, and sometimes a scan. Arriving late is commonly treated as a no-show rather than a shortened exam.

Can I bring my own calculator?

Sometimes, and only a specific type. Programmable, printing, and phone-based calculators are refused essentially everywhere. Confirm the rule in the current candidate handbook published by the Georgia exam vendor rather than assuming the Georgia site follows what a center in another state allowed.

What if my photo ID expired last month?

Expect it to be rejected. Expiration is one of the few checks that leaves the staff no discretion. Renew it, or bring a different unexpired government-issued photo ID that carries the same name as your registration.

Do I get to keep the note boards?

No. Anything the center issues is collected before you leave the secure area, and attempting to remove notes or reproduce questions is treated as a security violation. Plan to walk out with only what you walked in with.
